Taiwanese pop sensation Jay Chou just released his eighth album, fresh from his debut as a movie director, entitled “Secret”.

“Jay Chou on the Run” is the title of his new album. Feedbacks from fans only say that there’s too many standard Chinese ballads in this album, and no coherent theme. It’s a bit of Jay Chou style maybe, careless of what others think of his work.

The first cut on the album is “Cowboy on the Run”, a country-styled song that makes fun of the stereotypical image of a brawling, beer-swilling cowpoke. I’m not a big fan of Jay myself, but I find this cowboy song quite interesting and, well, at least it’s not the same old ballad that everyone’s singing in Taiwan pop music.

Jay Chou was recently signed contract to star in an advertisement of an Italian brand sports watch. I saw in an older interview with Jay that he is actually pretty vain. He likes looking at himself on the mirror to make sure he always looks cool. Now that he’s done so many ads, his fans get to see how cool he is all the time too.

Famous in far east Asia for his song writing and composing, Jay recently won an award from 18th Golden Melody Award for his album “Fearless”.
